His Personal Achievements

He was a keen competitive shot for many years, shooting in the elite AA category. He represented Devon and personally won 3 County Championships. But luckily for the School in addition he is also a very experienced game shot; he is thus perfectly suited to advise in detail on the finer adjustments that are needed when moving from firing at clays to shooting live birds

His coaching Achievements

Over a dozen pupils of his school have risen to county level shots

The Man. This may be an impressive list but it is the person himself that really matters. It is clear that Ian has achieved much personally and with his pupils, but it soon becomes apparent that there is so much more. He is highly observant of both shot and person, a patient instructor, and a keen intellect able to discuss in detail the technical advantages of great shots like Robert Churchill, Percy Stanbury and in more recent times John Bidwell, four times world champion. His manner is relaxed giving confidence to his pupils and he has an excellent sense of humour. All these qualities help to achieve the very best from those he is teaching.

There is no one who has spent time with Ian who has not both enjoyed it and left with new ideas on which to ponder.
